Tomás Cantu-Martinez
Photographer and Architect
Tomás Cantú-Martínez is a Mexican-American architect and photographer based in Chicago whose work explores perception through form, light, and distortion. Influenced by his architectural training, his images investigate how space can be both constructed and disrupted.
In Distorsión Voraz, Tomás photographed the emblematic Chicago landmark, Cloud Gate, most commonly known as "the bean”. Tomás captures the sculpture not as a landmark, but as a disruptive surface of fragmentation. Through its curved, mirrored geometry, human presence becomes stretched, multiplied, and abstracted—revealing a voracious distortion shaped by movement, reflection, and light.
In contrast, Nordic Scenes reflects a quieter exploration of stillness and atmosphere, capturing the beautiful landscapes and distinctive architecture creating a dialogue between visual overload and visual silence.
